Once upon a time, a long time ago, when the internet wasn’t even a word and cellphones weren’t a thing of the future but just non-existent, a beautiful chateau was built on a ledge overlooking the Midi- Pyrénées, en route to Plateau de Baille, in the south of France in the small village of Chateau-Verdun. I am talking about Chateau de Gudanes. A magical place…

For quite a while now I am a follower of the Instagram account of this gorgeous chateau. And every single time these pictures knocked me of my feet. Every single picture looks like a fairytale. This is what I always wanted to do: restore an old castle and either live in it or open it up to the public, or both. It’s a dream and it will probably always be a dream. But Australian couple Craig and Karina Waters did it. They purchased Chateau de Gudanes and began with restoring this gem in November 2013.

Ofcourse I can tell you all about this place but the Chateau has a beautiful website that keeps every Chateau de Gudanes fan updated. Everything you want to know is on their site. Please have a look, it is such a journey! All I want to do is share this stunning place with you. To let you know it is there. Because I am completey blown away by the grandeur, even if this is still a work in progress. It’s like the past is still present. As if no one ever left. Beautiful and stunning and a big applause for this couple for taking on a HUGE project like this. It is actually more than a project, it’s a lifework. Castles like this deserve a second chance, third chance, fourth chance. Who cares, they should flourish again!

I feel like a child in a candystore just by looking at the pictures. There is so much history attached to this castle. And even if it looks like a ‘mess’ I still think it is so beautiful. All that chipped paintwork, old exposed beams painted in the most gorgeous colors, amazing old details in the woodwork, walls, ceilings and doors. It just really makes me fantasize about who lived here, who were these people, what happened there and how did they live? I get really nostalgic thinking about it and hope to visit Chateau de Gudanes one day! For those of you who love history as much as I do, you are gonna love this little piece of history.

Have a look at these beautiful, stunning pictures. It’s a fairytale isn’t it, this beautiful Chateau de Gudanes. If only the walls could talk……

Love,

Jessica

Hello lovelies,

Today feels like a relax Sunday. I went to the gym this morning, bought groceries and thought of this gorgeous Parisian apartment I bumped into on http://www.garancedore.fr. And so on this beuatiful Sunday, I would love to share this beautiful apartment. It is the apartment of Victoire de Taillac and Ramdane Touhami. What I love is the eclectic style and I love the fact that this home is not over-styled for the pictures. Relaxed. Just like this Sunday. To read the whole article, please go to Garance Dore!

What do you think of this pretty apartment and its eclectic style?

Have a great Sunday!

Hi guys,

How was your weekend? Mine was filled with a trip to the beautiful city of Lille with my husband. It is so beautiful there and we had a really great time. Didn’t take any pictures though, we were just to busy enjoying ourselves. Oh well 🙂. Another time we really enjoyed ourselves was a few weeks ago when we decided to go for a forest walk. Well that turned out to be the best forestwalk we ever had! I loved every second of it and so did Juliette, my daughter. It was ‘Nature Day’ (Natuurdag) that day in the forest in Apeldoorn (a town in the east of Holland surrounded by beautiful forests, a part of Holland where nature is really being protected and preserved). Our lucky day! And luckily I brought my camera with me. Nature Day was organised by a few nature foundations. It kind of feels like the English countryside on a day like this. And it is such a great way to get connected with everything happening in a forest. You really get to smell, see, feel, hear and taste nature. And what a great way to kick off Autumn. We did a lot of activities that day. A great success if you ask me. And a big thank you for all the lovely people who were there. Everyone was so sweet and enthusiastic. Enjoy it with me in pictures.

Spraypainting pinecones and making jewelry with what nature has got to offer. And don’t you just love the look of this girl?? True countryside style.

Sawing wood with a guy named Ian. What great guy, he really made Juliette and all the other kids feel at home.

Making popcorn!

Making bird food cakes. What a great idea!

Creating art with flowers, little pinecones and other natural decorations.

The little guy, relaxing in his Bugaboo.

Fishing with dad. So simple and they had the best time together. It’s the little things, isn’t it?

Learning how to make fire!

Foodies

Hi all,

For me the weekend has already started and to kick off this lovely weekend, let’s have a cocktail!  An Elderflower/ Prosecco cocktail. This drink is just very very yummy and fresh. Usually I am not a Prosecco lover, but this mix is just so delicious, I had to make an exception 🙂.

What it takes?

– One part of Elderflower syrup

– 3 parts of Prosecco

– one part of sparklin water

– a mint sprig

– a wedge of lime

Give it a little stir and there you go: heaven in a glass. Enjoy your weekend!!

Love,

Jessica

Hi all,

I have two kids. Juliette is almost four years old and Joshua is 15 months old. They both love being busy with ‘reading books’, drawing and making puzzles. We had this small Ikea table but it turned out to be a little too small for two kids. The wall where the table stood is about 150 cm wide. For a while now I had in mind to either buy or make a longer table of scaffolding wood so the kids have enough space for themselves to play. So I carefully informed my husband about my idea and a few weeks later he made this perfect scaffolding wood table for the kids! It is just as wide as the wall and it is just perfect.

And then I had another idea. A chalkboard painted the wall! I’ve been meaning to have a wall like that for ages but never got round to actually painting it. A few weeks back I decided it was time to give the kids their perfect ‘desk space’. And so with chalkboard paint by HEMA the hubs turned the boring white wall into kids’ (and mommy’s) paradise. I am so happy and it is so perfect when you have creative kids! On rainy days, just give them some chalk and let them do their thing….on a wall! And this HEMA paint is perfect. I choose the grey version as it so just a bit softer than black. Be patient for a week after painting, it needs to dry well and adjust, but after a week you can wipe the wall clean with a wet cloth and draw as much as you like. I am one happy girl and so is Juliette. It just looks really sturdy, the combination of scaffolding wood and the grey wall.

To give you an idea of what it looks like at our place I did a little shoot with a few cute Hema props. As you might have noticed already, I am a huge Hema fan. So this is also a little tribute to Hema 🙂. Whom I am very grateful for sponsoring my wall!

What do you think?

Garden

This season has so many beautiful moments. And one of them, to me, is picking the apples from our apple tree in our backyard. This tree had a very good year and the apples are delicious this year! They are also bigger, juicier and in much better condition than last year and the year before that. And to our surprise, we got to pick them a little earlier than we usually do!

The kids loved to help. It’s pretty amazing for them, and even for us, to have your own apple tree 🙂. I still think it’s quite magical.

Happy Appleseason everyone!

Hi lovelies,

On a quiet moment last week I picked out my Autumn and Winter clothing. I keep them stored under my bed in an Ikea box. Which is perfect, because they are not in the way and stay nice and keep smelling fresh. So summer dresses in the box and woolen sweaters and vests in my closet. And I really enjoy it! All that wool, knitwear, warm colors, and big scarfs. Yes, I am definitely an Autumn girl 🙂.

Are you also getting ready for the cold weather?

Love,

Jessica

Hi all,

As it so happens I was looking for pale green and black interiors. Don’t ask me why, but it was on my mind and so I was looking for this kind of interiors on Pinterest. Not found… It’s late and I’m tired. But I did find these beautiful pictures of a beautiful home.  Love at first sight! It’s the home of stylist Fiona Richardson.

Love the colors, rugs, combination of the colors and furniture. It’s classic, rough, trendy and timeless at the same time. To view the whole house and read the article, go to The Design Files. I am so in love with this house!!! It embodies everything I want for my home and future home and also the bold, daring style I am looking for.
